Panasonic has released the successor to their popular DMC-TS1 waterproof, shockproof and dustproof camera. The Panasonic DMC-TS2now sporting a new 14.1 Megapixel sensor means you can capture all of your outdoor adventure with crystal clear detail. The camera is also rated to withstand an impact from a 6.6 foot fall, a dive of up to 33 feet, freezing temperatures down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit, and is also dust proof. At just under an inch deep, it will conveniently fit into a jacket, or cargo pocket for travel to any destination that you can conceive.

Photos are just the tip of the iceberg with the DMC-TS2. The camera also offers the user the ability to capture HD video to SD/SDHC memory cards with the AVC/HD video format or HD Motion Jpeg. The new Leica 4.6x zoom starts at a robust 28mm wide angle to squeeze in those trees into your nature composition or your extended family’s vacation portrait. You will also be able to capture your images with very little blur largely in part to Panasonic’s Mega Optical Image Stabilization.

What truly makes this camera unique is the new LED light for underwater or low-light photography and videography. The LED can be set to an automatic function that takes most of the guess work as to whether or not the situation demands more light than what is available. This function is separate from the built in flash.

I am your typical busy mom and between working, soccer practice, pre-school, and potty training I have a lot of photo opportunities throughout my day! Like most parents, I love the idea of having my SLR with me at all times but, I think we all know this is just not practical and capturing my 4-year old’s class programs with my camera phone was not working either. I have been on the lookout for a really good multi use small digital camera for awhile now and I am proud to say that I have found just the camera…the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2. Why did I choose this camera you ask, let me tell you This is such a versatile little pocket camera, on top of having excellent picture quality indoors and out it also is waterproof, shockproof, freeze proof, and dustproof (translation KID proof). Now there are some limitations so I recommend checking out all of the specs on out site.

I love the idea that when we go to my brother’s lake home we can take the camera on the boat with us, use it on the beach, and even take it in the water to capture those really fun moments. I know that underwater cameras have been around for awhile but this one really stands out to me for a few reasons; Panasonic’s POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) Shake Detection is really in a league of its own. I have found that this feature is significantly improved over previous models and really helps to capture a great shot. Also, the large selection of scene modes are fun to play with and really allow you to get creative.OH and how could I forget…it has HD video recording! The HVCHD allows almost double the recording time in HD quality compared with the older Motion JPEG format. Do yourself a favor though and buy a mini HDMI cable so that you can watch your videos in HD connected directly to your TV.We have this camera available in Orange, Blue, and Yellow. Which color will you choose?

The Next Generation of Digital Photo Frames

Toshiba has introduced two digital photo frames that have Wi-Fi capability. They will be available in eight (8) (DMF82XKU Black or DMF82XWU White) and ten (10) inch (DMF102XKU) screen sizes. Now, easily send all the pictures that are hibernating on your computer to an attractive digital picture frame. The touch senor controls on the frame appear when touched and disappear after your done with your adjustments adding to the futuristic appeal. Not only can you send photos from your computer, but if you have an online account with a photo sharing site you can combine those into the mix as well. Buy two and send one to your favorite family members so they can have access to all your photos too on their wireless network. The photo frame can also play video MPEG 1,2 and 4 and has 1gb of internal memory to store photos or videos, so before you give one as a gift you can load it with a personal video message. Of course it also plays MP3 audio files so you can add a little music to your custom slide show. A man scrambles to set up his projector before his guests arrive. Struggling with the screen for several minutes, he lets out a breath sighs and gets ready to now set up his projector. The guests arrive and now begin to enjoy a vacation experience set to music. The slide show continues for the next 45 minutes as the painstaking journey that allows its participants to enjoy a part of their friends experience.

What are you missing out on with your Digital Camera?

Have you ever wondered if you’re getting the most out of your Digital Point and Shoot Camera? Recently, I heard a blurb on the radio from a consumer magazine that recently surveyed their readers about the Point and Shoot Digital Cameras they’ve purchased. The results were surprising to me.

Over half of the respondents didn’t clean their camera’s lens on a regular basis. Most of the camera manufactures go to great lengths to make the lenses perfect. The lens has a great deal to do with the picture performance of the camera, how well it focuses and how sharp of image and color accuracy. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been at an event and seen people use the tail of their T shirt to clean their lens. I must admit I’m guilty of doing the same. More than 1 in 4 of the people surveyed used a shirtsleeve, canned air or household tissue. If you clean the lens with an ultra soft microfiber lens cleaning cloth you’ll notice better performance. No blurry spots and faster focusing. Microfiber clothes also work well for cleaning the fingerprints off the camera’s LCD display.

Nearly half of the respondents didn’t transfer their images to a backup device, hard drive etc. We use a free program at home that will copy and store your images in an easy to find layout called Picasa. The program is a Google program that I’ve recommended to many friends, family and customers. It will do most of the editing that most people do, keep track of your photos on your computer, simplify uploading your photos to the web and even remove them from your memory card once they’ve been copied to your computer for backup. We go one step further and backup our computer off site in case our hard drive dies.

Over one third of the camera users surveyed didn’t know if their camera had scene modes, face detection, image stabilization or burst mode. All of these features actually help overcome common complaints with Point and Shoot Digital Cameras. I purchased a Panasonic Point and Shoot Digital Camera for my wife that she absolutely loves. We recently went camping and I admired how quickly she could navigate the different features and scene modes. She spends a bit of time every time she uses the camera getting familiar with a new feature or scene mode. You can see just how much she enjoys the camera from the pictures she takes with it. If you have the natural “eye” for photography that she does spend some time getting to know the features of your camera. You owe it to yourself and your family. After all you aren’t just taking pictures, you’re capturing memories.

Canon EOS 5D MK II… Camera or Camcorder?

Finally the convergence of two directly related media is becoming a reality. While certainly not the first SLR (single lens reflex) camera to add video to it’s repitoire, the new Canon EOS 5D Mark IIdoes so like no other. Boasting a full-frame 21-megapixel CMOS Sensor, you can expect exceptional results.

The images that have been captured by Canon’s new magic box are nothing short of breath-taking; perfectly suited for landscapes, portraits, or anything that has a lot, and I mean a LOT, of detail. The body is also quite solid.

The video mode offers infinite potential. In my opinion, what video cameras have always lacked is that sense of depth that motion picture cameras have been able to convey. The ability to convey advancing imaging depth is largely due to the capture format size and the lens’ exceptional light gathering quality. The video mode offers the sense of depth and buttery-smooth image quality that previously only motion picture cameras have been able to convey.

I can’t wait to shoot one again!
