LED, not solely Samsung and Sony.

There is a new backlighting technology now that most of you have probably heard of LED Backlight. There is a bit of confusion out there as there are two types of LED backlighting . They each present their own advantage.
Samsung has the thinnest LED Backlight LCD TV’s out there and they are using “side lit” LED’s to create the light which illuminates the picture. The advantage is the screen can be VERY thin 1.5 inches . The significant advantage of the side light LEDs is the thickness of the TV, side lit LED screens do not really add any improvement picture you see on the screen.

Then there is the LED backlighting with local localized dimming. This helps improve the black levels considerably and approaches what plasma technology can offer. Sony and Samsung were the first. Toshiba , LG, and Sharp have now come out with their sets that use LED with localized dimming. They look fantastic and are less expensive than the hard to find Samsungs and Sony’s. Here are the models so you can check them out.
