Wireless Speakers?
February 9th, 2009 by Patrick G
So you’re finally ready to upgrade your sound system to surround sound. Your primary living room with the TV is in the basement on a concrete slab . You do not have access to run the speaker wires in the ceiling. So you think “wireless speakers.” Sounds like the easy solution.
Here’s the rub. There is no such thing as completely wireless speakers. What the manufacturers mean by “wireless” is that you don’t need cable to connect the AV receiver at the front of the room (near the TV) to the speakers in the back of the room. The rear speakers will still need to be amplified, in other words you will need to plug it into the wall. Then the power source needs to be connected to each speaker, more wires. The power supply is usually incorporated into the receiver for the rear channels but sometimes not, so more wires. Now there is the transmitter that goes into the AV surround receiver at the front of the room and it may also need ac power so another wire. When everything is all said and done there are more wires than if you just ran the speaker wires directly from the surround receiver to the rear channel speakers.
A more traditional alternative is to use flat speaker wire that can run under carpet around the edge of a room or behind molding. That’s two wires, albeit maybe long ones, but cheaper and easier than the “wireless” systems.

can a wireless speaker system be hooked up to the directv box and then play there music eleswere?

Hi York,
In order to connect a wireless speaker system to your DirecTV box what you would have to have is a wireless speaker system that has a built-in volume control because the DirecTV box does not give you any control over the volume level output from the DirecTV box itself. You may need to look for something that will transmit the audio signal wirelessly from the DirecTV box to a receiver or stereo system in the room where you’d like to listen.
I hope this helps,
Matt

Though the Bose is a very good product we have a wide range of headphones that are probably as good or better performers. In addition to the Bose and skullcandy we have the Beats by Dr drea which are very popular . Grado, Denon, Pioneer, Sony and Pansonic are all making a very good product.
