Remote Control Extender
April 30th, 2008 by Thomas SRecently after getting our Comcast HDPVR Cable Box and rearranging all of our AV Components, we have now maxed out our cabinet’s capability. I discovered an issue that nearly caused a fight between my wife and myself. Our center channel was blocking the TV’s IR sensor. This caused us to discover a new posture for changing volume and inputs on our TV – it was the full arm extension with the remote pointing to where we thought the IR sensor was. It kinda defeats the point of having a nice universal system remote like the Harmony H880.
You may know what I’m talking about if you have a coffee table blocking some of your components. I have sold Remote control extenders for years. After coming home from work and finding the center channel sideways on the bottom shelf of our rack, I thought to myself “Hey we need a remote control extender system.”
I purchased the Niles Audio Remote Control Anywhere RCAHT and a IRB1 High Output flasher. I was able to attach the IR sensor behind our center-speaker. We’ve also got a direct connection to the IR input on our Harman Kardon AVR7200 receiver. No more “full arm extension.” Everything works flawlessly now. Problems solved and harmony in the home.
