Speed Matters

I recently purchased the very difficult to get Panasonic DMCFZ18. After two weeks of use I decided that my old 512mb Lexar platinum card was no longer cutting the mustard. (As with any digital camera the video really chews through the memory.) I was preparing for a four day long snowmobiling trip and I did not want to be limited to the number of pictures or video I could take so I made the jump to a 2gb sd card from Delkin.

I have never had any problems with my other two compact flash cards from Delkin and thought the 2gb sd card would give me an endless supply of memories. Okay it is only 2 gigs but let’s face it, to max out a 2gb card you literally need to be taking pictures the entire trip. I have done this on previous trips and vowed to never again replace relaxation with constant picture taking. So… what did I do? I went hog wild with pictures and videos.

As with any great trip I return home, transfer the data to the computer and begin reminiscing about the fun filled weekend. What I quickly learned is the card works great for pictures but something weird happens to the video. The video will begin to play only for a few seconds and then skips forward a few seconds. This play/skip process repeats the entire length of the video. Now maybe there is some user error involved but my experience tells me the problem is in the speed of the card as my old Lexar platinum card worked fine for video.

While the Delkin card worked well for pictures, if you plan on taking video with your camera, be prepared to purchase a higher speed card.

I would tend to agree with Brian on this one. Nothing more frusterating then not catching a great moment!
